North West In Bloom

It was judging day yesterday (8th July) for North West In Bloom, and King Edward Avenue entered as a community. Everyone has worked hard on their gardens again this year to make sure they looked their best, not a weed in sight. With all the good weather recently, it certainly helped the gardens to flourish. For the last two years we have been awarded the 'Outstanding' certificate, it makes it all worthwhile.
We will find out later in the summer how we did this year, lets hope for another good result. Well done to all.

Blackpool - Premiership. 2010

Thousands welcome home triumphant Seasiders.
AROUND 60,000 people lined Blackpool Promenade to welcome home their victorious Premiership heroes today.

There was pandemonium on the streets as an army of tangerine-clad fans cheered Ian Holloway's men as they rode through town on an open top bus.

The winning players disaplyed their Play-off trophy and shared the moment with their families, with many wives and children also on board.

At Waterloo headlands a presentation ceremony followed with Holloway leading the chanting.

"This is the most unbelievable moment of my life," he said.

"This is for you fans".

BLACKPOOL is heading for Europe's premier league!
Government ministers and tourism big guns are making bold predictions after The Tower and Winter Gardens were bought by Blackpool Council.

Now those behind the £40m deal are promising the rebirth of Blackpool as a leading family resort with top attractions and big names to rival anywhere on the continent.

As exclusively revealed in yesterday's Gazette, Merlin – ranked second only to Disney in terms of global tourism – will take over the running of the world famous Tower by the end of this year.

Millions will be sunk into refurbishing both the 116-year-old seaside giant and the Winter Gardens.

But it will not only be about polishing old gems – Merlin will bring with it a package of brands including Madame Tussauds, the London Eye observation experience and the "horrible history" Dungeons which all have proven track records.

Merlin chief executive Nick Varney told The Gazette: "I believe Blackpool has the potential to be one of the premier destinations not only in the UK but in Europe as well."

He added: "When you take Madame Tussauds, the Dungeons, the Eye Observation experience, alongside the Sealife Centre, alongside other experiences such as the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool will be going forward with one of the best concentrations of premier league brands outside of London.

"There has been a lot of false dawns, including the supercasino.

"But there has always been a number of people who have believed in the opportunities to resurrect the resort and that bringing back the family appeal with premier brands would be the option to take the resort forward."

Green Parrot - Betty Legs Diamond

Betty Legs Diamond, formely of Funny Girls Blackpool, has now opened her own place in Blackpool called Green Parrot. We went to see the show last night for the first time, it was fantastic, Betty is a very good all round entertainer, her cabaret acts, her dancers, her costumes are just first class.

King Edward Avenue Social - Thursday Feb 25th

Our recent Avenue social was a great success, the theme being Scarlet, everyone had a great time. A good chance to catch up with everyone, have a few drinks and chat, even a buffet was supplied so we did'nt go hungry. Mark and Martin were our hosts for the evening and they did us all proud.
They came wearing red dresses, shirts, scarfs, just anything red, one of course came as the scarlet woman, what a spectacle!!
